This is what [hiking] dreams are made of. Seriously, this hike was absolutely beautiful from beginning to end.

The hike starts through a forest of Aspens. You’ll find yourself gaining quick elevation and drowning out the noise of I-70. This hike was challenging and rewarding at perfect times. Climbing up steep hills only to level out into a rolling valley shortly after. If Chris had a dollar for every time I said this is really Pretty! – He would be set for life.

The last 1/2 mile will make you feel like you’re in another country. Today, I said it felt like I was in Norway. Have I been there? No, but I’ll keep pretending for now.

My watch clocked about 10.5 miles roundtrip. It took us about 6 hours to complete including our 40 minute lunch break up at the lake.

Know before you go:

  • There is VERY limited parking and it’s 3-hours only. It sounds silly, but I think they just really don’t want people to overcrowd the area. There was a police officer ticketing people when we arrived. We asked her where we could park and she was so appreciative we asked her that she let us park there. She said most people ignore her and continue on.  There is a shuttle in town that will drop you off near this trailhead. Parking here is not worth the ticket.
  • There is one (very clean) port-a-potty. It had hand sanitizer too – first world win! ha ha
  • Trail is half shaded and follows a creek. There will be mud and the sun will feel really warm when you get out of the trees. Bring waterproof shoes, sunscreen and bug spray.
  • Adding on to my previous statement, there are a few river crossings with loose branches/rocks. Waterproof shoes might be a good addition for this hike.
